Snow, Slush, Mud? Bring it on!

With winter weather comes the added “bonus” of piles of mucky shoes and boots stacking up inside the door . . . if our beloveds even bother to take off the offending footwear before traipsing all through the house.

Whether you have an “official” mud room or not, there are many clever ways to keep inclement weather-related clutter under control and the mess from messing up the rest of your home.

The Huffington Post’s Stylelist Home recently offered helpful hints for Nine Do It Yourself Projects To Improve Your Home In A Weekend, which includes how to create a mud room. (There’s even a link to a video with some special mud room advice.)

The great news is you can likely find many of the materials you’ll need to bring your project to life with a quick visit to one of our Re-Source York locations. Hooks for coats, boards for the hooks, crates, drawers, furniture to repurpose into handy storage, cute accent chairs, rugs, trays for keys, bins, and more.

Once you’re finished with the mud room, check out some of the other eight projects on the list. PS: We’ve got everything you need – cabinet door, drawer pulls, and paint — to make the next project.  Let us know how yours turns out!

In Service Day

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?”

This question, posed by the late Martin Luther King, Jr., was answered in force this week as volunteer groups offered their hands and giving attitudes in service to Re-Source York.

As a day of service project, nearly 40 employees of Heritage Valley Federal Credit Union (HVFCU) arrived to share their afternoon on Monday, January 16. As store manager, Nikki Hunger-Eckenrode announced each work project, hands shot up . . . along with some laughter when the men agreed to be part of the “we pick things up and put them down” crew.

Other workers cheerfully cleaned lighting fixtures, sorted tile, swept floors, filled out price tags and more. (See more pix on the RSY flickr page)

Group coordinator Kristina Rose said she was thrilled the entire group could be accommodated in one location. We were certainly happy for their generous assistance, getting us that much closer to opening full force at the new location soon.

A few days earlier, thirty some middle managers from RSY partner, Bell Socialization Services showed up in lieu of their monthly training session. Pitching in to clean windows, build shelves, move lumber goods, and sort inventory, the program coordinators, asst. PCs, and directors provided real hands-on effort and got a glimpse of how our store supports the work they do every day.

Season’s Greetings!

We’re excited about the move of our RSY building and renovation supplies store to its NEW LOCATION at 161 E. Ninth Avenue in North York, where we expect to open in early January.  The Beaver/North Streets store is now closed to the public (effective Dec 17) so staff and volunteers are busily preparing for the move.

We’d like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for your continued patronage, helping to keep good, usable product out of our landfills while every RSY purchase also empowers York County residents to improve their quality of living (through our partnership with Bell Socialization Services).

We appreciate your patience through all the renovation and road work this past year and look forward to greeting you at our new location in the New Year . . . as well as in our home decor and furnishings store at 405 Carlisle Avenue which remains open.

Best wishes to you all in this season of joy & peace.

It’s America Recycles Day!

Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on November 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day – the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the United States.

One day to educate and motivate. One day to get our neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when we all work together. One day to make recycling bigger and better 365 days a year.

On America Recycles Day, we at Re-Source York THANK YOU for your dedication to keeping good, usable stuff out of our landfills by donating to and shopping at our Re-Source York stores.

Together, we are doing our part to make the greater York area a greener place to live.

Price Reduction Sales!

See something you like at the Beaver/North Street store but the low price still isn’t quite low enough to match your budget? Just wait! (If you dare, that is.)

We have a new Price Reduction Sale Ticket on various items currently in stock.  The ticket lists an item at its present price, then reduces it November 2, again on November 16, even more on November 30 and a ROCK BOTTOM PRICE DECEMBER 9. For example, a $1200 special order door we had (original retail of over $2,400) would be down to $600 by December 9th, IF no one snags it at any of the reduced prices before that.

The tickets are being added to more and more items the closer we get to our move to North York.

Also, we have residential wall paper rolls at $0.10 each (regular price is $1.00), and regular mini blinds at $1.00 each (regular price from $2.00-$6.00).

We also have carpet remnants as low as $2.00 and a final clearance section with $5 cabinets and vanity tops.

More mark downs are happening every day, and we will have 10,000 BTU air conditions available next week, too!

Happy Shopping!
